Openreach (still commonly known as BT to many of us) are set to make huge changes to the UK’s telephone services by 2025. This may sound like you have plenty of time to think about this – but the ability to order will cease as of 2023; so, make sure that you don’t get caught out.
As of December 2025, Openreach are withdrawing the PSTN and ISDN network. But what does this mean for you and your business?
The Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) allows for calls to be made through ‘old fashioned’ copper/fibre telephone lines. Over the past decade, we have seen a huge increase in the reliability of broadband and over time it has eradicated the need for traditional hard-wired lines, making room for the wide spread use of IP based solutions such as VoIP technology.
What is VoIP?
VoIP is a cloud-based telephony solution that allows your system to run online, over a secure internet connection. Minster offer 3CX to all of our customers as an alternative to traditional phone lines (PSTN/ISDN).
3CX allows for unified communications throughout your entire business as well as a wide range of additional features such as call recording, personalised voicemail and the ability to queue calls.
A 3CX VoIP system gives your employees the ability to access telephony on multiple devices such as mobile, tablet and desktop – meaning that users can work from anywhere, at any time!
INTEGRATION WITH CRM SYSTEMS – The 3CX phone system is easy to manage and is Microsoft Windows based. It is also able to integrate with other business applications and popular CRM systems.
EASIER COMMUNICATION – Unified communications are made easy with Presence, Fax & Voice Mail to email, web conferencing and instant messaging on the 3CX Windows dashboard.
COST EFFICIENT – VOIP system costs less to buy and expand, giving you a greater return on investment. 3CX also eliminates expensive telecom consultants with an easy to use web-based PBX console. The web-based management console makes configuration, updates and backups easy, eliminating the need for expensive maintenance. A VOIP system means you can make calls at lower call rates and allows you to bridge your offices for free inter-office calls.
We’ve been using the 3CX VoIP telephony system since 2018 and I honestly didn’t notice the difference as a basic, in office user for the calls I was making & receiving. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit and we were all tasked to work from home that 3CX became a big part of my working life. The easy to use app allowed me to receive calls from my mobile or tablet and transfer any calls to a colleague within 3 clicks; the caller wouldn’t be aware that I wasn’t in the office and we could get on with our business as normal!”
